Some readers might have got a message “Error opening database connection” when trying to log into the blog. I am told by our server people that this message was because of a password and address error in the PHP admin files. I have no idea what that means, but it is now fixed.
So it wasn’t just you, or your browser. Since we didn’t change anything, we don’t know what the site suddenly went down. Since we talk a lot about China, the fear is always there that the tentacles of the thought police could reach us, but it doesn’t seem to have been anything malicious.
The good news is that the problem is fixed, and we are back on the air.
