I will be in Tennessee next week for this year’s TMS.
It is a sign of the tough times in our industry that companies are downsizing the numbers they send to TMS, or deciding to not attend at all. Companies are feeling the pinch, and at a departmental level budgets get pared down. For a company operating outside the USA, it means several thousand dollars on airfares and hotels. And isn’t it funny how every year the “TMS hotels” always seem to be among the most expensive? Just a coincidence I am sure…
Meeting?
It will be great to catch up with those who are attending. I have a pretty full timetable, but if you are attending TMS and don’t have a meeting planned with me, feel free to send me an email.
As in years past, I am looking forward to doing “live blogs” from around the traps. TMS is a great time to catch up on who got promoted, who retired and who has departed for greener pastures.
In the 15 years I have been attending TMS, I have not known it to be held in Nashville. So for many of us it will be a case of trial and error trying to figure out the plan to get from hotel lobby to hotel lobby. The technical guys get it easy - each technical stream is usually in one room or group of rooms, all within metres of each other.
As usual, there will be an Aussie dinner on Saturday night. If you are Australian, work with Aussies, or want to be an Aussie, contact me for details.
By the way, if you are going to be in Nashville, take winter clothes. I just looked at the weather forecast for the next 7 days, and it is showing temperatures down to -8C Saturday night, while the best day time temp gets up to a miserly 5 on Monday. We could be back in TMS Seattle for that sort of weather!
