Shandong Weiqiao, better known by its Listed company Hongqiao, has fired a salvo in response to recent allegations.
About a week ago, a website appeared with the rather unsubtle name of hongqiaoexposed.com. The website contains a single document which carries a long list of allegations against Hongqiao. The website and document accused Hongqiao of fraud in relation to related-party transactions, and carried various other allegations about the company’s financials.
Neither the website nor the document carry any identifying name or contact details.
In response, Hongqiao has issued a statement saying that it rejects the allegations and is considering legal action against the perpetrators.
The timing is not great for Hongqiao, who were in the spotlight a few weeks earlier when the South China Morning Post carried a story about environmental punishments that were not disclosed to shareholders.
These recent allegations remind me of the attack on Zhongwang last year, when an unknown party attacked that company with similar venom. In that case, the company identified itself as Dupres, but that meant little to most observers. In this case, there is no identifier, though I am sure there are people conducting Whois checks right now.
The feature image shows the website in question - the About page gives no indication of who is behind it, and invites readers to go to the document at the core of the website.
